Targeting your
Market
Before you start
designing your flyer you must decide your target market.
If you make your pitch or offer too broad you may miss
the people you really want.
There is a saying “If
you chase two Rabbits both will escape”
Focus on your ideal
customer, what are their problems? what are they worried
about ?
-
Keep it
simple
-
Attention grabbing
headline
-
Two or three fonts
or type faces
-
Three or four
colors
-
Bold text to
highlight main offer, cut off dates
etc
Pictures and
Images
Pictures and images are
not strictly necessary for a simply designed flyer,
however if you want to use them, choose them wisely and
position them carefully.
Lots of images on a flyer are
not a good idea, it is better to have one larger centralized
image that compliments, or reinforces the message of your
flyer.
When a person looks at text and
pictures, they always (subconsciously) look at the images
first, with too many small images they scan the images and
miss the headline and message.
A good source of cheap,
suitable images can be found on the internet, there are
many web sites that have royalty free images available
for download.
Headline
Message
Use your flyer headline
to capture their attention, don’t waste this opportunity by just
putting your company name in the headline, it is simply
not good enough.
You must use your
headline to stress a Benefit of your
product or service, or solve a Problem they
have.
If you have focused in
on your target market and identified your ideal customer
you should have some ideas for writing your attention
grabbing headline.
Special
offers
If your flyer is to
include some special offer or deal that you are promoting
then it is better to place the offer on the bottom part
so that it occupies the lower third or lower quarter of
the flyer.
Make sure that the conditions
that apply to the offer are clear and concise. If your offer
is limited to specific areas or dates or limited by supply
you need to state this clearly.
